Seit einiger Zeit versenden von Viren und Würmern
betroffene Rechner Mails, die angeblich von mir (mfx@dasburo.com)
abgeschickt sind. Dies ist nicht der Fall. Mein Rechner ist nicht befallen;
von meinem Account ging -- meines Wissens -- noch nie eine Virus-Mail aus.
Viren und Würmer fälschen den Absender der
versendeten E-Mails mit einer willkürlich aus dem Adressbuch des Opfers
gezogenen Adresse. Wenn sie eine solche Mail erhalten haben, wird auch Ihre
E-Mail-Adresse bald als Absender benutzt werden. Sie sind deswegen noch
nicht befallen!
Nachdem ich des öfteren Mails von Menschen bekomme, die mich von angeblich
von mir ausgehenden Virenverseuchten Mails unterrichten wollen, habe ich
eine Standard-Reply verfasst.
Wie lange noch werden die meisten Menschen ein geradezu blindes Vertrauen
in die Absender-Kennung von E-Mail haben? Werden Viren und Würmer dazu
führen, dass die Akzeptanz von Authentifikations- und
Verschlüsselungssystemen wie PGP die kritische Schwelle überschreitet, bei
der jeder dieses System installiert haben muss, um effektiv kommunizieren
zu können?
Einigen wird es schon aufgefallen sein: nach etwa fünf Jahren haben "Tiere,
die dem Kaiser gehören" ein neues Layout erhalten. Aber keine Angst, alle
alten Inhalte sind noch (und sei es über die alte Startseite) verfügbar.
Die alte Startseite ist weiterhin verfügbar. Die neue wird nach und nach mit den
alten Inhalten aufgerüstet, dabei werden alte Inhalte aktualisiert und an
neue Browser angepasst -- viele Javascript Gimmicks funktionieren in
neueren Browsern nicht mehr, oder nicht korrekt. Alles, was von der
Startseite aus angelinkt wird, sollte aber auf IE6 und Mozilla
funktionieren. Sozusagen eine copying compactifying garbage collection.
Als Font wird zum ersten mal "Georgia"
eingesetzt, ein weitgehend ignorierter Web-optimierter Serifen-Font von
Microsoft. Georgia sieht deutlich besser aus als Times, und ist meines
Erachtens über grössere Text-Strecken besser lesbar als serifenlose Fonts
wie Verdana.

At exactly 2000-05-27 11:19 MET, I registered Yet Another Totally Useless Domain Which Is Kind Of Funny When You Hear It The First Time. It is called "www.meindomainnameistlaengeralsdeindomainname.de" (my domain name is longer than your domain name). I took it only because it was free, and I wanted to know whether there is a maximum domain name length (I would have guessed 32; but this one is 41 chars long, and it seems to work. I had a dream about how, at this very moment, domain name servers and routers all over the world fall in a coma because as-to-this-day-untested code is be called for the very first time).

On 2001-12-27 I wrote an article "Why VAJ sucks (for web projects)". Today, VAJ is no longer important; IBM instead created the Eclipse platform (which is quite nice) and sells it as WebSphere Something-Or-Other (I only know it abbreviates to "WSAD". I can never remember IBM's product names, as everything under the sun is called "Websphere" and has at least one "enterprise" in its name. "Welcome to E-Business", indeed.), which, by the way, seems to me much harder to use than plain eclipse.

I have fixed the old Game of Life implentation. It
didn't work anymore because of a variable "var screen". Reserved variable
names in javascript are a pest! For some reason, IE6 is much slower than
Mozilla on my machine.

("Hausaltar") has been updated to work correctly in IE5/Mozilla-based
Browsers.
The Self-Destruct page still works. It causes the browser to open an endless number of windows. A Variation uses a simple javascript loop. Of course these scripts shouldn't destruct anything, they are just trivial denial-of-service attacks. Still, they just use standard javascript APIs. Testbild
Years ago, i bought a Jenny Holzer Textbook that contained the complete text of her Truisms in english and german. I had been very impressed by her installations. As a javascript demonstration hack, I typed the truisms into some files and created a web installation ( english / german ). I have heard that the installation will be part of the upcoming official Jenny Holzer website.
