AFAIK, this was the very first direct translation into English, and it is the one I have made available here in January, 1994. My comments on it can be found in the annotated index (which is actually earlier than the "public", "spoiler-free" version that now serves as the default link).
The introduction speaks for itself. The earliest european translation is Galland's french one (which already omits a lot of the poetry); and Lang has chosen a subset of Galland's translation; `` omissions are made of pieces only suitable for Arabs and old gentlemen''.
I have marked and split the etext. Upon fetching it the first time, the last 100k was missing (no indication of error from the browser, though); now (29.04.95) it is complete. Lang's translation is easier to read than Burton's, but then, he was targeting for the juvenile audience.
This is a collection of writings by R.L. Stevenson, namely the collection of stories regarding Prince Florizel and the Suicide Club, and some larger pieces, "The Pavilion On The Links", "A Lodging for the Night" ("a story of Francis Villon", not a translation, but a story featuring Villon), "The Sire De Maletroit's Door" and "Providence And The Guitar". The only visible connection to the A.N. is the modus operandi of the "suicide club" frame narration ("as told to me by my arabian author").
There is now a local copy (567k plain text, gzipped to 221k), and a marked-up and splitted version.
